Creating the “Perfect Gallery Wall”

Creating the perfect gallery wall can be a tricky one- almost like building a puzzle. I can assure you it is not as easy as it looks, in fact I actually would suggest hiring a handy man / professional frame hanger to help you out. I did exactly that.

I knew in my mind where I wanted the frames to sit, but trust me I wasn’t game enough to start hammering holes in the wall and the frames looking lop sided. That was not the look I was aiming for.

A gallery wall can add a beautiful finishing touch to your homes Décor. It is a great way to not only display your favourite photos, but also prints, art collections, kids art – you name it.

This is the start of my gallery wall and I am going to add to this. Compared to most gallery walls this is very small in comparison. Nothing beats having your memories on display, a photo captures a moment in time & what better way then capsulizing those special moments in life.

My tips for Creating that ” Perfect gallery wall”

• Pick a spot in your home that has high traffic flow- an area that you are constantly walking past E.G – Entrance, Hallway, Staircase or Dining Room.
• Measure the wall area where the frames will be hanging (have a rough idea on how many frames you will be putting up)
• Buy the desired frames – my black frames where purchased from http://www.countryroad.com.au
• Work out who will be doing the hanging job – highly recommend getting someone in (at least to start it off) – once the layout is up you will have more confidence adding to it down the track.
• Pick photos that are special to you & that you love displaying – some may need to be enlarged or made smaller depending on the frames you pick. Another idea is lovely art work or prints – I recently framed a gorgeous vintage Hermes scarf for my daughters first birthday (something she will keep forever) I am going to look at buying more and displaying them, as it came up so amazing – refer to the picture below.
• There are so many variations for hanging your wall art – Horizontal, Vertical or simply in no particular pattern (like I have done) – although even though there is no particular pattern, the frames must be separated and spaced evenly to avoid it looking “messy”
• Most of all have fun creating that special wall

Below are some other examples of framed walls and looks I love, either using scarves, art work, prints or Photos. So easy yet so effective.

I am so in LOVE with the outcome of the Hermes silk scarf that I recently got framed. I decided to frame it with a soft gold frame to compliment the colour of the keys in the print.
